About the Project

With the growing demand for biodegradable and nature-friendly ingredients, manufacturers in the chemical and food industries are seeking increasingly efficient and sustainable technologies. One of the key processes in this transformation is crystallization - a technology that optimizes yield, quality, and stability of ingredients like citric acid and biogums.

In 2024, AMBYX was selected as the supplier of two stainless steel crystallizers for a leading player in the industry in Austria. The task: to manufacture equipment meeting strict hygienic and technical standards, including a maximum internal surface roughness of Ra < 0.8 µm—a critical requirement in food and pharmaceutical production.

Challenges

Manufacturing crystallizers for such applications requires not only deep understanding of process-specific requirements but also top-tier expertise in metalworking.

The challenges included:

  • Complex and extended welding operations

  • Precise edge preparation

  • High demands for surface hygiene and smoothness

  • Resistance to chemical exposure over time

Approach and Solution

AMBYX tackled these challenges through a combination of expert engineering, high-tech equipment, and strict internal quality control. Specialized beveling and edge-prep tools were used to enable clean, precise welds with minimal deviation. Each component underwent fine grinding and surface treatment to achieve the required surface roughness of less than 0.8 µm.

This not only ensures long-term durability but also minimizes the risk of contamination in the production process.

The Result

The two crystallizers have now been successfully integrated into the client's production line in Austria. The project reaffirms AMBYX’s ability to deliver highly specialized components for demanding industries—focusing on hygiene, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
